Fitness Success via 'Gradual Progression'

'Gradual Progression' - is a term used in the circles of fitness pros
and trainers who understand the importance of building on a solid
foundation and making gradual improvements from there - this type of
approach yields permanent results more often than other approaches
(significantly, more often).

This is the way I have chosen to build my fitness business - and with
that in mind I would like to give you a sneak preview of the next
generation of 'Joey Atlas' interactive websites and blogs: (I will be
phasing out this blog 'The Fitness Advisory')

1 - http://www.YourFitnessBook.com - this one represents my first book
which set for release in May. (Don't forget to 'Subscribe to Feed' on
each of these sites - so you can get all of my articles automatically
as I post them.)

2 - http://www.LowerBodyMakeover.com - this is the official site for
the Digital e-Manual version of my world famous 'Ultimate Leg, Butt,
Hip and Thigh Makeover' Womens' Home Fitness Program.

There are 7 other sites of mine that are being revamped for my
subscribers and clients - stay tuned for their unveiling...

How to Shock the World

What’s the easiest way to shock the world?

One person at a time.

No matter what you do or what your passion in life is – the most powerful way to share it with the world is one person at a time – and in most cases it’s the only way to do it.

This is the way my websites and newsletters are designed. …to speak to the individual and build a relationship.

This is so powerful that it even works on people who may have known you for decades. Here’s an example:

We got an email last week with the question:

“Is that you Joey Gennusa?”

Those of you who have been getting this newsletter for a few years already know that my birth name is ‘Gennusa’ – Atlas has become my professional/pen name.

[for those that are curious - read this: Joey Gennusa]

Short story is, a longtime friend, Chrissy (we basically grew up together with our families being very close – and they still all keep in touch) was doing some research on the ‘net' for specific exercise info – and ‘by chance’ she came across one of my sites – but didn’t realize right away if it was the Joey she grew up with. Hence her email to see ‘if it is me’.

We told her it is – and she was ‘shocked’, surprised and happy to know that I am spreading knowledge that I have been developing over the last 20 years – I asked how she was doing and here is her response:

“Joey...in January I started a 12 week body transformation at Gold's Gym. Tonight is the half way point and I have to get measured and weighed in.

I lost 12 lbs already and realistically have 15 more although I would like to do 20 more. I go to the gym at least 5 times a week and have a trainer once a week. It is really getting expensive

Do you think I need to continue with a trainer? I really have to lose this weight. I was gaining so much weight so fast so I went to the doctor and was told that my glucose was high and I was borderline diabetic.

She said that it can be controlled with diet and exercise. I'm eating great and have so much energy and actually look forward to going to the gym. I love taking the "Bodypump" classes. I'm afraid that I won't do the right things if I give up the trainer.
What do you think?”

--The key to Chrissy’s question is in this statement,” I'm afraid that I won't do the right things if I give up the trainer.”

Here’s my answer – not just to Chrissy – but anyone who is in this type of situation…

If your motives are based on your values and fueled by your desire to take good care of yourself – for all the reasons I write about:

- Being the best you can be for your family.
- Being as productive as possible at work
- Wanting to be around when your kids have kids (being around, and full of vitality, for your grandkids)
- Setting the priceless example (for your kids, nieces and nephews) of protecting the gift of life you’ve been given.
- Reversing diabetes (and any other conditions that can be fixed) and preventing the long list of ailments with proper nutrition and smart exercise.

This list can be longer, of course – but you know where I am coming from.

If we read the question closely – its not about keeping ‘the trainer’ for instructional purposes – as Chrissy points out that she has made great progress – mostly via her own efforts. She is referring to the element of outside accountability in the form of a trainer.

When our thoughts and motivations are coming from the right place – we can easily internalize the accountability factor and in effect ‘become our own trainer’.

Remember that phrase - ‘become our own trainer’ – I talk about it much more in my book, ‘Fatness to Fitness’ which is coming together very nicely – stay tuned for the official book launch – its going to be amazing.

As I mentioned last week – there is A LOT going on behind the scenes here at Atlas International Headquarters – most of it geared toward helping you achieve permanent fitness success of the ‘whole body’ - i.e., body, mind, spirit (it’s all one).

Stay tuned for this week’s ‘Fitness Stories from Around the World’ - you’ll be getting it in about 2 days.

The Big Fitness Exposition

As I always do, when I've been invited to speak or participate in a fitness related event, I just wanted to let you know about this next one. Its shaping up to be the largest internet based Fitness Expo. There are over 80 speakers lined up - covering over 100 topics in all areas of fitness.

Fit-Com-Xpo

Since you are a Joey Atlas subscriber, and I'm one of the speakers - you will have access to the event at 50% off what the general public will pay to attend.

At minimum go check out the sites to see the complete list of speakers and the topics to be covered.

A great feature about this - is, if you can't make the web based seminars as they are happening - you'll be able to access them anytime you want because they'll be saved and hosted on the site permanently.

Go see Fit-Com-Xpo

On a side note - I was leaving Atlas International Headquarters last Friday and as I put my stuff in the FitMobile - I noticed a beautiful Osprey on the tree directly in front of me. The Osprey is a bird that is very common in Northeastern Florida. So, I took out my camera and snapped of few shots - here they are...

More Custom Fitness Programs Coming Soon...

--------------------------------------
-- Secrets of a Trainer --
--------------------------------------

Happy Valentines Day! (if you celebrate it)
- I'm just spreading some love - and for the guys
reading this, no need to get squimish or squeemish,
its brotherly love, ya know....

Alright here is what you made me do: (this is ALL GOOD)

- most readers of this newsletter have also purchased
one or more of my dvd sets (I thank you sincerely).

But - many subscribers are in parts of the world where
they cannot purchase fitness materials from abroad and
have them shipped into their country and to their home.
This just doesn't work in some parts of the world, for
a host of reasons.

Because of this, I've received A LOT of requests to create
digital versions of my programs for the people who can't
get the actual DVDs. Doing this properly requires a hefty
investment.

And because of how well my dvds have been selling over the
last 3 years - I've been able to start investing in creating
digital versions of my programs.

Right now - I have a company who is recreating the New Ultimate
Leg, Butt, Hip and Thigh DVDs into a downloadable home
and travel exercise manual. This digital PDF version will be
available in the next 3 - 5 weeks - Stay tuned...

Also - with the upcoming release (early April) of my first book
'Fatness to Fitness' - I've hired a company to build a custom
website & interactive blog which will also become the new
'Joey Atlas' site - its going to be amazing - Stay tuned for that...

Additionally - the same company is revamping all of the
Joey Atlas websites, complete with active blogs and
subscriber tools, etc... - This is all geared toward
taking things to the next level and making your visits
to my sites helpful, comfortable and user friendly.

You will see a very neat display of simple branding
across these sites - and again some very useful tools
for your fitness and self improvement efforts.

I am also working on a another project that I can't say too
much about - but here's what I can tell you...

One of the biggest body areas that we get questions, comments
and inquiries about is - the 'butt' - I mean A LOT...

So much that I decided to create a site dedicated to helping
women (and some men) fix whatever problems they have with
their 'butt'.

I have teamed up with one of the top programmers
in the USA to put this site together as it will be completely
interactive with all kinds of tools to offer solutions for many
'butt' related challenges - and because of all the inquiries
from overseas - we are making it completely digital.

There is nothing like this - at all. There's lots more to
tell about it - but I have some cut-throat competitors
who 'secretly' subscribe to my newsletters to see what I'm
planning on creating, etc.. So I can't say much more
right now. Stay tuned for more...

Fitness Emails From Around the World

Here is this weeks live issue of 'Secrets of a Trainer'.
I've posted it here - as I realize it did not get through to
all subscribers email in-boxes. Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to this week's live issue of 'Secrets of a Trainer'.

Well, its been about 3 weeks since we released the Ultimate
Leg, Butt, Hip and Thigh Makeover, Professional Remake - and
the great feedback is starting to come in from our first wave
of clients. Lots of success stories are in the making as we speak.

Stay tuned for these before & after success stories - as we
put together the ULBHTM Remake to foster each client's simple
tracking of progress and improvement.

Ok - regarding the "I owe you this..." in the subject line.

Up until about 7 or 8 weeks ago - I was sending out a
newsletter every Friday titled 'Amazing Emails From Around
the World' - or some version of that.

Basically - it was the most recent week's collection of
success stories, inspiring comments and suggestions and
great questions that warranted answers to be shared with
you and all other subscribers.

With everything going on - from revamping all of my websites
to finishing my book and planning several new DVDs to be
produced this year - I have been lax about sending out the
'Emails From Around the World' Edition of the newsletter.

I recently realized how much that it was appreciated and missed
because we've been getting emails daily, asking "How come you
don't send the 'emails from around the world any more, Joey?"

So - I'm making the effort to start sending it out at least once
every other week. The good thing is we have no shortage of
truly amazing emails that have been coming in every day.

So without further delay here are a handful of the most recent
emails from around the world...

Hello Joey,

You made me feel guilty with this latest newsletter,
but to be honest I wasnt quite sure when I should
let you know what an amazing result your dvd is
having on my bod! The first time I did the dvd
disc 1, I was stunned at how much I felt it in places
I had never felt it before...like the inner thigh!

Well after 2 weeks only doing the dvd 3 times a
week I thought I was fit...Ha!

who was I kidding! anyway....... I walked into my
sisters and she stood opened mouthed and said 'where is your
(fat) butt?' I knew I could feel the changes but I didnt realize
how good it looked. Now I have to share my secret with
her! which I dont mind at all, as we have a family
trait.....BIG FAT BUTTS!! well, its a lot smaller, my thighs are
thinner, my waist is thinner!

I have combined your dvd with
a better eating regime and other excersices that I like
to do, upper body dumbell weights, trampett, stair running, stepper,
skipping rope, gym ball and stretches that I do
anyway.. But I was doing these before and my body lost
the weight but it wasnt toning it like your dvd said it would.

Joey... I cant thank you enough.

After 20 years of my weight going up and down, and my butt
and thighs getting fatter and wobblier, and my belly
getting bigger and bigger, I am now getting the body I
never had before I was 20!

My Husband is so impressed too.
I have tried loads of other weight loss and toning teqhniques,
but nothing has worked so quickly. (even pilates has nothing
on you!) I dont want to stop, you have me hooked, so next week
is week 4. at week 5 I will do the dvd all 5 days. I will stick
to this until I can do a count of 15 each excercise (cos some
of them is right tuff and I can only do five!)

I have a photo
of me in London in september and I hadnt realized how
tubby I had become, this was my inspiration to do something.
I am 41 in march and cant bear the thought of still looking
and feeling like I did and beyond! and thats when I found
you!

So when I feel I am looking photo worthy I will send
a snap of the old tubby me with the new slim sexy
'Look at the great butt on that chic' photo!

One more thing, I am a terror for starting things and not
finishing, I lose interest, especially if I dont see results, but
this is for life, its like a breeze, I dont feel its hardwork at
all, and when you see what you can achieve in such a short time,
thats the kick I need.

Wished I had discovered you years ago, I have wasted so much on
worthless equipment and other dvds.

I will be in touch with more updates and hopefully
some photos. take care Joey and once again a big thank you!
regards & Best wishes,

Lisa T in the UK.

-----------------------------------------------

Hi Joey -

I bought the 'classic' lower body dvds last summer and used them
religiously for three months or so (mixing with cardio and some
machine work at the gym). I've always been a walker and tend to be
pretty slim and I eat healthily, but the cellulite and jiggly
motion down there was NOT good.

Being able to see 40 creeping down the pike has really motivated me
to keep my desired shape :). You won't be surprised to read that I
was amazed at the rapid results - and pleased :). I was pregnant
and eventually used that as my excuse to slow down the exercise
(read "stop" :)), but having had my baby six weeks ago, I've
started up again.

I credit the increased muscle tone from this summer as one reason
why I had no issues with gaining too much weight during my
pregnancy and why - at six weeks postpartum - my "baby" weight is
pretty much gone!

Also, I LOVE that your dvds are not irritating (no hyper
motivational hollering, music I wouldn't listen to if someone paid
me and far, far too much peppiness :)) and just focus on getting
the job done. You're the man, Joey!

Sincerely,

Chandar Payne

Make your ads believable? Come on, Joey!
If the auto companies can turn out cars
with ads that show women with happy, calm
children in the SUV or a guy with a sexy
babe because he has the newest, hottest car
and we think THAT'S believable?
Well, our culture must!

So screw 'em! If you get testamonies and
they are great, show them off!!!
Those folks worked hard for that honor; don't hold them back.

Dear Joey,

Just to let you know since I have been doing your leg exercises, my
legs, thighs and butt have improved so much I cannot believe in
just a few short weeks... I do them every day faithfully and they
are so much more toned. I don't believe I will ever stop doing
them... they are part of my everyday exercises.....thank you for
all of the information on diet, fitness, etc....I look forward to
all your newsletters.

Joey:

The LBHT Makeover videos are kicking my bottom, it feels
like I am using muscles that haven't ever been used
before and I used to be a very athletic person.
WOW, great DVD! Thanks

--------------------------------------------------

Hi Joey,

I recently purchased your Leg, Butt, Hip, And Thigh Makeover DVDs
and I have been doing the 3rd exercise (the free one) from your
website for the last 2 weeks. Let me tell you - I have been so
happy I found your programs in my desperate search for something
that really works!!! That exercise is a KILLER!!! :)

I have been doing gym 6 days a week ffor the last 3 years, and I
have been a vegan for that same period. While my skin appearance
have improved significantly, I could never find a proper routine
that would tone my lower body muscles, without making me look bulky.

I have done some serious sports activities in my childhood and
early teenage years (sports gymnastics, athletics, skiing) and
since I stopped I always found that ANY weights or gym exercises
for the lower body made my muscles grow big instantly and I
couldn't reach the results I was targeting - etc. a lean, skinny
and toned lower body!

Your exercise is doing just that and I am constantly being amazed
at how smart it is and how it makes my muscles work hard. Believe
me, I am amazed beyond my wildest dreams!!
THANK YOU, JOEY!!!

I have only one question... I work at home on a computer and have
plenty of time so that I can exercise. So, could I do LBHT routine
every day, instead of every second day?
Would that improve and help me reach the targeted results quicker?

Thanks a lot for all your on-going help and e-mails!
You inspired me to pursue my gym and body goals more than anyone
else in my whole life!

Donna Stonehouse - Australia

------------------------------------------------

Joey,
I love the exercises and they are effective,
especially because I take the time to make sure I am
using proper form and doing them slowly. I have just
started so I'm only on the first DVD, but I am
completely satisfied with your product and
down-to-earth tactics. Thank you for sharing your
workouts with the rest of the world!!!

Kind Regards,
Margie Brasil-Butaitis

------------------------------------------

Hi Joey,

Quick question, I am currently on level 2 of both abs and legs,
butt/hips, thighs (and i love the changes your workout is giving
me, the saddle bags are decreasing!!) dvd workouts and i know it
says to do whole dvd once and then repeat again for the next rep.

Is it necessary to do it this way or can i do the repeat exercise
straight after the first one? Just curious as thought there might
be a reason as to do whole workout once then repeat.

-ANSWER - GO THRU ONCE THEN REPEAT

Thanks
Michelle from Australia

Pregnancy Fitness - An Article for Moms (and Mums)

Pregnancy Fitness - An Article for Moms (and Mums)

I strongly believe that some of the best trainers and lifestyle coaches are people who have been on the opposite end of the fitness spectrum - like myself going from 'fat kid' to fitness pro. Here is another such person who has become very popular by helping moms (and mums) get healthy and fit. Read on...

Submitted by Author and Certified Personal Trainer, Holly Rigsby:

"Prior to becoming pregnant, the extent of my fitness routine included a breakfast of 3-5 doses of doses of diet pills, and hour of yoga, light lunch and a satisfying dinner. I somehow managed to keep myself "thin" by avoiding any type of healthy eating or exercise plan. I am emphasizing the word THIN for by no means was I fit and healthy. I did understand that once the topic of "Let's have a baby" arose in a conversation I was having with my husband at the time, that I need to get my body healthy. The first thing I did was drop the diet pills trading them out for folic acid and prenatals and I begrudgingly began the habit of eating breakfast...

- You can read the rest of Holly's story at her website: Sexy Mommy Again - but first take a look at her her 'before and after photos and read the fantastic article she submitted to help moms (and mums) in their efforts at fitness and health improvement...

Getting better - getting 'fitter'

Holly Being a Fit Mommy (or Mummy)

Here is Holly's article:

Skinny Jean Strategies: 5 Powerful Moves for Moms to Reshape Problem Areas

After having a baby, a new mom’s desire to “get back to normal” is of utmost concern. The timeless measure of our success seems to hinge on the “skinny jeans” we keep in our closet. Sadly, many moms hold on to those jeans for years as they slowly begin to accept that their body will never be the same. After several failed attempts at weight loss it is quite easy to fall into this limiting mindset.

You do not have to settle for the out of shape “mommy body”. Getting your body back after birth is not only achievable but comes with benefits no mom should be without – increased self-confidence, loads of energy and a positive outlook on life ~ just to name a few.

Lack of time is consistently the number one reason why many new moms fail to lose the baby weight. However the most damaging reason why moms struggle is because they are falling prey to two of the biggest fat loss myths:

1. cardio as the end all be all answer to fat loss
2. shaping exercises or “spot reduction”– working a specific body part will burn the fat

Not only are moms wasting their precious time, but these strategies are completely ineffective methods for losing the lingering baby fat.

When it comes to your implementing a fat burning workout, your goal is to work your muscles. The more muscles you work, the higher your metabolism, the more easily you can burn the stubborn fat and a result in a lean, toned body that slips easily into those skinny jeans!

What follows are 5 powerful moves to help you effectively reshape your problem areas so you can reclaim your pre-baby body and look and feel fabulous!

1. Get Into Intervals. Getting back to normal does not mean you have to work longer and harder. When it comes to cardio and fat loss, it’s less about the number of calories you burn while you workout and more about the calories you burn all day long. Traditional cardio does little to nothing to boost your metabolism and in fact the longer your session, scientific studies have shown that your body begins to become more efficient by breaking down muscle for fuel. Intervals are the perfect solution! The shorter, more-intense your session, the more calories you burn and you preserve lean muscle, which will make you look tight and lean as you reach your goals. In addition, the shorter, more intense sessions will have a more profound effect on the calories you continue to burn 24 hours after completing your interval session. Great if you are a busy mom who is short on time! The best “skinny jean” intervals are walking/running on an incline, using a Stairmaster or my favorite – Sprints!

2. The Squat: The single most effective lower body exercise for it is a compound movement –works more than one muscle group at a time. The squat targets every major muscle in your upper leg – the front and backs of your things – your glutes – the muscles in your bottom- PLUS the muscles in your back and your core! Movements that work many muscles at once will burn more calories, increase your metabolism, tone and strengthen your lower body so you see and feel results faster. If you are just starting out, body weight squats are just as effective as squats with weights.

3. Lunges: Next to squats, lunges are the next best thing for strengthening and toning your glutes and thighs. This is also a compound movement so you will experience similar benefits. There are many ways to do lunges. You can begin with static lunges and progress to more dynamic versions such as the forward and reverse lunge.

4. Strengthen Your Core: I Want to Get Rid of My Mommy Belly! Yes, the lovely bulge that hangs over our jeans. It’s vital to understand that the best Ab exercises in the entire world will only work to strengthen your core muscles. You must use the strategies designed to make your body lose the fat that COVERS your abs in order to get results.
Doing “abs” as part of your routine is beneficial for strength purposes but doing hundreds of crunches a day will do nothing to flatten your tummy. Planks, Push Ups and wood chops for example do so much more to help your fat loss efforts. Remember the key is to recruit as many muscles as possible so use all of the muscles that wrap around your core, and you will burn more calories, boost your metabolism and shrink your mommy belly faster.

5. You are What You Eat:
The move you can make that has just as much impact – if not more – than your total body, metabolism boosting workouts is the action that takes place between your hand and your mouth. It is time to stop eating for two and time to trade the junk for more supportive choices – quality proteins, fresh produce and whole grains. And yes, you need to eat. It is impossible to boost your metabolism and impossible for your body to release fat if you only eat once or twice a day. Make sound choices, eat every 3 to 4 hours and you will notice a huge difference in the shape of your belly, thighs and bottom!

Finally, as you begin your pre-baby body transformation, be sure your focus is to lose fat – not pounds. This makes a huge difference in how you measure your results and more importantly – how you look in your skinny jeans!
