Alot of you had fun with the video contest earlier this week & so did I. It was the first time I had ever posted anything on YouTube - and in less than 4 days it has been viewed over 2,000 times ! It even reached the top 30 most viewed on Wed. in the Music category - something I did not expect. Feel free to share it and pass it on - and for all of you who keep advising me to get on Myspace (I'm working on it) please share the link to the video with your network - they'll enjoy it.

Darlene Martin from Canada was the first to spot me at 40 seconds and 1:14 seconds. She chose the 'Ultimate Upper Body' DVD set as her prize because her lower body is starting to look 'really good' (via The, Leg, Butt, Hip And Thigh Makeover) and she wants her upper body to have that same look.

Most of you know I rarely return personal email fitness questions - not because I don't want to - Its just physically impossible with all of the email I get every day. Many of the emails are questions about the same topics. One of those topics being supplements, either d.i.e.t or ffat bur.ning pillz (I have to do that for spam reasons).

Here is the short answer (this happens to be the chapter topic I'm writing for my book that comes out in 2007 and its the subject of a news release that will be broadcast in 2 weeks.)

Most of the supps. in this category are aimed at the weaknesses of people. The names, the labels, the images, the buzzwords, & the claims are all carefully crafted to take advantage of your emotions, hopes and desires in order to get you to buy and buy and buy. What most people don't realize is that the FDA has minimal regulatory involvement as it applies to the vitamin & supplement industry.

This is one of the reasons why these dubious companies can get away with this kind of stuff. Now, keep in mind I don't think the govt. should have complete oversight of the vit. & supp. industry but the way things are right now is probably the worst scenario that can exist. Think about this: over $20 billion is spent annually on these types of products and only a few weeks ago a report was issued that documented obesity rates rising in the US (and in other counries). Something is wrong, wouldn't you agree?

Anyway here is what it comes down to: You must be your own consumer advocate - and the number one filter you must put in front of you is one that you already possess - Logic And Common Sense (sound familiar?)- most of you know this is a common theme in my approach to fitness and nutrition success. This is easier said than done - and I say that from experience. If you do nothing else just repeat this to yourself when thinking about your self improvement, 'Use my Logic And Common Sense.' - More on this in 2 weeks and in the book in 2007.

Its never a 'perfect' time for many of the things we do in life. In 1999 I divorced my wife of 5 years. It was an 'unhealthy' marriage that slowly wore away at my spirit, and this started to manifest in actual physical symptoms and I knew it was time, there was no other option.

The divorce occured when JoJo and Alexa were almost 2 and 4 years old (far from perfect timing). I had been 5 months delayed in opening my new personal training facility and because of this we were living on credit cards and more credit cards with debt adding up very, very quickly.

Because the business was brand new - income was slow and profits were extremely tight. Because of this, I knew I wouldn't have enough money to afford a place to live
for a while.

So, on the evening of my decision, I went to the only place I could - to my training facility. Living in this biz location was prohibited in my lease agreement, but I had no choice. And as tough as it was, not to be able to spend the night under the same roof as my kids, I immediately felt 'myself' coming back, my spirit rebuilding.

I lived in the training facility for a year and 4 months, sleeping in the massage room on a massage table. The biggest challenge (for MANY reasons) was getting JoJo and Alexa every other weekend, staying in hotels, trying to find help while I worked, etc... But they needed me as much as possible and I needed them, so we did what was necessary to make it through week by week.

There were times when I would think things through. 'What if the biz doesn't make it - how will I get out of this place? What if I have to work in a field that I do not have passion for just to pay the bills?' But I also knew I had the power to choose what would happen, what my future would hold - and that is what I would focus on and continuously envision and work toward.

Part of my vision was and still is, helping people around the world find newer and better ways to achieve fitness.

I put so much energy into my training business that there were periods of time where I had no choice but to put new clients on a waiting list. There were some days when I would train people from 5 am unitl 10 pm, back to back with 2 or 3 thirty minute breaks somewhere in the day. I was, and still am, completely grateful that I was blessed with such an abundance of people who wanted what I had to offer.

Since those wire to wire days of 2000, I have met my perfect mate, Jeri-Jo, we live in a great neighborhood with our daughter, Darah, and we've had alot of quality time with JoJo and Alexa who live just a few miles from us.

I've transformed my business to complement our lives and provide me with the means necessary to deliver my knowledge and expertise to people all over the globe. I have truly lost count of the number of countries that we have shipped DVD packages to and I'm happily emabarrased to say that we've shipped packages to places that I've never even heard !

I get emails day and night from people thanking me for how I've helped them find success with regards to their fitness - this is one of the things I envisioned laying on that massage table (my bed) in a room just thirty feet from Starbucks.

Getting divorced and being homeless was not easy to step into - but there were many benefits that came out of the experience. It helped me focus on what I wanted most out of life. It helped me learn that where your mind is, holds the most importance beyond any physical situation we are presented with. My spirit began to grow again - and I knew whatever I learned from the experience I would be able to pass on to my kids in some beneficial way.

What can you take from this? Well, keep in mind that there is a vast array of people reading this with you. Some have yet to do their first workout ever, and some are seasoned fitness professionals, with a fantasitc mix of people in between those 2 extremes.

There is rarely a 'perfect' time in life to do something. Whether its 'gettting yourself fit and healthy', leaving an unpleasant career to pursue your true passion, moving to a new country or getting divorced, there is no perfect time to do it. 'Perfect' is what you make from it. Your mindset has more to do with what is 'perfect' than anything else.

Take a look at your life, step outside of yourself and have a talkj with 'you'. What do you want for yourself? Where do you want to be in a year, 2 years or 10 years. This applies to all facets of your life - its yours to do what you want with it, only yours.

WHEWW!! Sorry if some of that was vague - but I think you got it.

Ok - Here is step 10 - 'Habits'

I'm still gettting alot of enthusiastic 'Yes!' responses from many of you who are 'still in this' - along with some great feedback and early success stories. One of the common threads in all of the incoming emails is the replacement of 'bad habits' with 'good habits'.

Now this can mean different things for different people - but one thing is for sure - those who are finding success have incorporated new habits into their lifestyles, which are conducive to improvements in health and fitness (which also means different things to different people, a good thing...).

So, 'Whats the big deal?', you ask.

Well, in order for this to have any meaning to you and whoever you pass today's piece of 'fitness wisdom' on to, we must know what a habit is and how it 'becomes a habit'. A habit is basically a physical manifestation of your mindset. And a habit becomes a habit by way of your proactive control of your thoughts. Good habits don't just happen by accident - they happen because you decided to make them happen.

Thats a simple definition - but that is all that is needed here.

What seperates the people who achieve permanent fitness success from those who do not - is usually (and there are always a few exceptions) a function of 'the mindset' which dictates what habits will be exhibited, good ones or bad ones.

As your 'instructions' for Step 10, reflect, and write in your fitness journal how your mindset has changed, and how your new mindset controls your new habits. Then read what you have written (add more if you wish) and use those thoughts and the words you have put on paper to strengthen your new mindset and the new you.

Now get to it !

Before I go, here's a bonus for you. I just submitted a press release based on a report that was released last week citing how obesity is on the rise. Now, I know there are many different readers of this e-newsletter and some of you are quite fit and not overweight (there are many pro trainers that subscribe to this) - but keep readng to learn how you can use this info to help others around you who may be challenged by this epidemic.

I believe that one of the main reasons for the spread of obesity is the lack of attention given to address the 'mindset' of those who need help. There is a ton of info regarding 'do this, do that, don't do this, eat that not these, etc. etc. - but all that stuff is worthless until the 'state of mind' is addressed. As most of you know my 'philosophy' is quite different than that of most, if not all, other fitness pros out there. Yes, my actual fitness programs are unique, but they are so because of the part they play in letting people know there is a 'different way' to do this.

What does this mean to you?

Over the past several months I've been paying close attention to email inquiries and origin of dvd sales - specifically, how people have been 'finding me'. There is a clear and powerful trend of more and more people finding me by way of good old fashioned 'word of mouth' - i.e. - you are telling our friends, family members and co-workers about my e-newsletter and/or the dvds. On the business side of the picture we call this a 'virus'.

Of course its a good virus and it only spreads if it starts from something beneficial and helpful. This is how we can all band together to fight some of the ills out there. Whether its my stuff or someone elses out there, if you trust it and you believe it is helpful, pass it on to those who can may be able to benefit from it. It will come back to you many times over.

Yes, sending this no-cost e-newsletter to over 50,000 people around the world does cost me money - but the more I share, it seems the more good is coming back to me - proof positive ! So pass it on as a gift...

I just received the abs program this last Monday. I ran through it that day, quite gingerly, somewhat picking and choosing which of the exercises and how much I could do.
Today I did the program in its entirety and I am blown away. This is a fantastic, well rounded, yet reasonable program for level I. I am looking forward to going on with it, progressing, and know already I am going to need the hips, thigh, etc program as well.
This is a terrific workout, even for the beginner, which I always consider myself until I really know the ropes of something. I do cardio, and some weight training, but really need something just for the core and the stretching that accompanies the program. Gee, thanks! I don't really look for stunning aesthetic results, but improvement in strength and tone would be fantastic.'

Thanks so much for all your encouragement through your newsletters and e-mails. We(my husband and I) have been doing your Abs of Stone DVD's and Leg, Butt, Hip and Thigh DVD's for the last 2 weeks and really enjoying the challenge. Cant wait for the upper body workout DVD's to arrive.

Most of the beginners exercises we can do 20 but there a a couple of challenging ones in there that will take some work. But we are up to it.

I have been going to a Legs, Bums and Tums class at the gym for the last 6 months and I have to say your workout does so much more for me than that class. I still go for the cardio but come home and do yours afterwards.
Don't you just love those squats and lunges - I can't get enough.

I was really motivated by a comment in your Blow Torch Diet book which came with the DVD packages. This comment mentioned how looking after yourself and staying fit is the most unselfish thing you can do for your family.
This is so true. Unfortunately so many people don't see it that way and are too lazy to make changes. I was one of them and I can tell you that the way I feel now to the way I felt 6 months ago - I will never ever go back to that couch potato lifestyle. My lower back problems have dissappeared, as have my shoulder and neck complaints. The money I save on the appointments at Chiropractors and massuers can now be spent on a new wardrobe for my new figure and hopefully some bikinis real soon.

Will let you know in due course how much we lose and how we go with the intermediate levels of the program.

I have been seriously exercising for many years. I felt I should be farther along than I am today with all the effort I put into exercising and eating healthy, BUT I wasn't. That is until I came upon your website and decided to take a chance on your cd.

I want you to know instant is not what I was looking for in your cd series because I had been down that road before many times. Although it was almost instant when I noticed the bloating in my upper thighs was leaving and within in a couple of weeks my sideview was much slimmer. My skin texture in the thigh area toned up and smoothed out very quickly.

I kept chugging along as usual but this time with real results in that I could stop exercising for at least a few days and the results were still there and I didnt feel atrophy in the muscles that I had worked. Well, of course, you know I was happy, elated and all that good stuff!

I continued to tackle what I had thought (before this cd) was a never ending cycle of slim results as I become older. Hey, I noticed extreme results after a month of the Abs of Stone and Core of Steel cd...it just slipped upon me one day. This is remarkable because instead of targeting the abs and aimlessly doing frontal exercises for the abs, this cd has targeted the core and all surrounding muscles to attain that trim and slim look. I feel better and am more aware of my fit midsection now! Yeah!

I like how you stress drinking water and resting in between sets if you need to and enjoy the ride because it is not a marathon.

I also like your many variations to one exercise to get the same results with no emphasis on rushing to get to the advanced stage. You don't start with the advanced exercise and the participant has to start out with this level with it becoming a major uphill battle as a beginner or a person new to the exercise to achieve the exercise set.

With this cd, you helped me keep my eye on the goal and have fun while doing it. I Certainly saw and continue to see the results.

Well, yet again this led me to your next cd, Optimum Flexibility. You just keep them coming and flowing with tremendous results. Wow! this cd improved my flexibility and made me aware that I had more flexibility than I thought.

This was right on time to help me prevent injury to my body and definitely improve my circulation problem because I sit all day and am stiff when I get up from my chair. I also do some stretching in my chair thanks to your tips and many suggestions throughout the cd. I feel like a well oiled machine, my joints have no clicks and twitches of pain when I bend or sit now.

The Before And After Project - Step 9 - part 2

Ok - last week I sent Part 1 of The Before and After Project. It was the request to have anyone who is still participating to send me that simple email response - 'Yes, Joey - I'm still in!'

And I must say I'm pretty impressed with the enthusiastic response I received. We are going to have our hands full here when your B & A stories & photos start coming in - (stay posted on when the submission dates will be.)

In case you didn't figure it out - that was Step 2. You being prompted to respond and reaffirm your commitment & dedication to your personal B & A Project was another step forward, both on a conscious level and a subconscious level - pretty clever, huh?

Step 10 will come later this week.

In response to the other topics I put in last week's issue - your replies, suggestions and reciprocal support is greatly appreciated and always welcome. The testimonials I've received, so far, are out of this world - no hype, just you guys putting your experiences and results and how these affect your life into words - pretty easy - but still tremendously appreciated.

Don't stop - keep them coming - the longer and more detailed the better - I love reading. And remember it doesn't matter if I've helped you by way of this f.r.e.e e-newsletter or by way of my DVD programs - I still want to hear about it. Even if you think you are not a 'writer' - it doesn't bother me - just keep it simple if it helps you - you can even make it an outline or list if you wish.

We will be including as many of these 'success stories' (in addition to the B & A Project stories) as we can fit - so you'll be able to say, 'I was mentioned in a best selling book.'

Some of you asked for ideas on 'how can we help spread the word about Joey Atlas?' For now, the easiest and most effective thing to do is to go the your local papers (US or INTL) and tell them about your fitness success, BOTH physical and mental, with Joey Atlas's help. Most papers have websites where you can go and easily find the email addresses and phone numbers to the editors. They make this info public because they need stories and they need to hear from people like us.

They want unique story lines, such as - 'I 've made the best fitness progress of my life because of a true to life and trustworthy fitness expert I found on the internet, and here's how he helped me.'

Or, 'I think I found the next Jack Lalane, your paper may want to find out more about this guy - here is how he helped me.'

I think you get the idea. And when you are asked how they can contact me just send them to www.JoeyAtlas.com - all of my contact info is there.

This is how 'news is made' - so lets work together to spread the word about Joey Atlas.
