Joey Atlas on Oprah...

In this week's live issue of 'Secrets of a Trainer' you will learn about how 'ordinary' people, just like me and you, get on shows like Oprah and how I am already scheduled to appear on the show.

But before I get into that - I must tell you about this...

Yesterday, I was brainstorming how I would put this email together, you know, a basic outline - then sleep on it (while letting my subconcious do some more of the work) and then sit down today & type it - then send it.

Well, while going through my emails this morning, I came across this one - which most people would write off as coincidence - but if you understand the power of the mind (and our thoughts) and its relation to the energy of the universe - I know you understand this is no coincidence.

It came as a response to the free info I offer thru my websites and my emails.

'Hi Joey: You do have a body that is to be envied. I wonder why Oprah hasn't discovered you. Thanks...you are a social contributor!'

Did you catch that line about Oprah discovering me?

As I mentioned at the beginning of this email, I am already scheduled to appear on the show - the program directors just don't know about it yet.

You see, just like achieving permanent optimal fitness, we must be able to 'envision' the results we are working toward AND we have to truly believe we are capable of achieving those results. So in this context I have already scheduled myself to appear on the Oprah show - the rest is just a function of time and me doing what is necessary to make it possible for Oprah to 'discover me'.

Now - I am no different than you, or any of the others 50,000 subscribers to this e-newsletter - I just happen to have a neatly defined & flexible gameplan - which some of you may in fact also have. Whether or not you desire to be on the Oprah Show is another story. My reason is that an appearance of that magnitude will make my ascent to 'wordwide fitness personality' just a little bit faster.

Besides the piece of mental energy I may have provided you with in the paragraphs above here is something else that may fuel your fires...

Last week I received an email from an actual client who has purchased 2 of my DVD sets and does read each issue of this newsletter (You'll know who you are once you read the next paragraph ;-)

She happens to be a biz develpoment/marketing specialist and here is what she had to say:

'Joey,
Just wanted to send a quick email to thank you for your programs - I've been doing them for almost 3 weeks and I love them - but from a business standpoint may I offer some advice?

First, everytime I get one of your e-newsletters (which goes out to both actual clients and non-paying subscribers) I have to wonder why you are not charging for it. I believe that even those of us who have purchased some of your DVD programs should still pay extra for what your now offer as a freebee e-newsletter. You are spending valuable time writing it and the content is usually brilliant compared to most of the other fitness newsletters out there.

What intrigues me most is that you allow people who have never purchased any of your programs to subscribe as long as they wish - thats charity, not business. Now I am a little 'mature' (from the old school) and sort of new to the internet models of doing business, so maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture.

I think you have alot more to offer in terms of your biz structure and what you offer and ultimately how successful the business is.

Please take this as constructive criticism/advice from a client who believes you have lots of upward potential.'

Now - rather than answer this one directly - I thought it would be best to answer thru this newsletter so everybody understands why I do what I do AND how we can help each other move forward in life.

My motivations are simple - by helping others with small but powerful pieces of advice without expecting 'payment' in return - that goodwill comes back to me in some form or another. Its one of the laws of the universe. By unselfishly offering helpful information to those who want it - with no strings attached, at some point the same 'energy' is going to come back to me with something that I desire to be 'helped with'.

Sometimes its fast sometimes it takes a while. But part of this is based on our mental state and our readiness to 'accept' the aid being offered.

From a business standpoint this has been proving to be a wise way of operating. One example is that just by 'word of mouth' or 'word of email' many of you have sent your friends and family members to my one of my websites to sign up for the newsletter - and a good many of those people have purchased at least one DVD program - and that is just one small example.

On a related note, as many of your testimonials and success stories have proven what help I am capable of offering - even just from some of the no-cost info I provide, in the near future I may be looking for some assistance (in the form of some return 'energy') from all subscribers and clients, in an effort to help me speed up the process by which the program directors at Oprah actually put me on the schedule.

In other words, we are all going to have a hand in this and I'm going to illustrate by example that almost anything you can think of in your mind's eye can become reality if you truly desire it.

-inches lost
-weight lost
-change in clothing sizes
-changes in physical strength
-changes in mental strength
-outlook on your life regarding haelth and fitness

..whatever you think of that is most important to you - write it out, put it into an email and send it to me. This is for anybody - not just participants of the 'Before and After Project.'

The Before And After Project - Step 8

Before I get into Step 8, I have a few quick points to make.

1) The Before and After Project is not necessarily about 'losing weight' - for some maybe it is - for others it could just be toning up and for most it should be seeing 'total fitness' in a whole new light - maybe learning what realistic fitness actually is, as opposed to what you may have 'learned' from others over the years, etc...

2) Thanks for all the great feedback regarding the ideal match between my 'gymless' BodyWeight workouts and certain branches of the military in the US and abroad - we are seeking inroads to the 'decision makers' as I write this.

3) As a result of #2 above, I also received a good number of emails form other 'public safety' personnel - especially law enforcement, and the need for simple yet effective conditioning programs AND nutrional guidance - any more feedback (testimonials) from our L.E. clients would be quite helpful as we are in talks with several organizations to package my workouts as a total solution for L.E. personnel.

Ok - here is Step 8 of 'The Before And After Project':

With about 4 weeks to go before all participants are supposed to turn in your before and after photos and success stories - your subconcious may be telling you, 'the end is in sight' - now, I know this may not be true for everybody.

In actuality, this should be seen as just 'the beginning' - think of this as you getting off to an ideal start on your path to permanent fitness. As most of you have come to realize - true fitness is just as much - if not more - a state of mind, as it is a number on the scale or 'how you look' in the mirror. Its everything - its how you feel, its how you take care of yourself, its not letting your workouts rule your life at the expense of all the other aspects of your life, and those around you. Its about how you feel about YOU...

When the mind is in the right place - you just do all the right things - and when you 'mess up' - its no big deal because 99% of the time you are doing the right things.

For those who have hit a 'plateau' - don't worry about it - just keep doing what you are doing, plateaus are natural - and if you feel 'stuck' for too long just add a little to your workouts or change the time of day you do them - in other words inject some variety - maybe even tinker with your foods...

Just don't be too critical of yourself - look at the BIG PICTURE - long term goals...

Any Joey Atlas clients/customers who are interested in getting into the book (who are not doing the Before And After Project) may do so by writing a 'success story' about how my DVDs/philosophy/Blow-Torch diet or anyone of those has helped you reach your goals or get much closer to your goals - or even understand what fitness is really about. You may include photos - but I can't guarantee that all photos will be in the book - space is a consideration - but we will try our best.

'Fitness Celebrity Attacked' - this is a headline that you may very well read in the near future. But I'm going to decrease the chances of this becoming a reality right here, right now.

You see, whenever you take your destiny into your own hands to guide your life toward a big goal or goals - there are always others who want to bring you down out of pure envy, jealousy or hatred - or even just the fact that they are not taking the same kind of action themselves (envy).

If you've ever come up with an idea that was out of the norm for you or the people around you, and you talked about that idea with others - it is highly likely you would hear responses such as 'Oh, that won't work.' 'Oh, that's not a good idea.' 'Oh, your such a dreamer.'

People who choose to live healthy get this kind of stuff all the time - when out with friends and ordering dinner for example - the fitness minded person who orders a meal that is in line with their goals is usually bound to receive some sort of mocking.

I'm getting a little off point here...

The more you succeed in life the more you become a target of criticism, gossip and verbal (sometimes physical) attack. People will look for, and sometimes conjure up (start rumors) dirt about the person who they want to harm.

So, as you are well aware that I've already planned out my roadmap to become a world recognized fitness leader/celebrity (this only happens by helping ALOT of people, and it is happening everyday), you can bet there are already people waiting for me to get to a certain level so they can start firing away.

One of the things I can assure you they will use as ammunition is the subject of my name, Joey Atlas. But it is going to be a non-issue, because I will set the record straight in this email and I will permanently record it in my official blog for the world to see, forever.

Joey Atlas is my real name - my real professional/pen name.
The last name was given to me by my first personal training client, Mike Letis, a true marketing genius in the world of TV and sports (he is responsible for turning The Breeder's Cup into one of the biggest horse racing events in the world).

When I first started working Mike he asked me, 'Where do you see yourself in 15 or 20 years, professionally?' My answer was, 'Helping people around the world achieve fitness, like Jake or Tony Little, but with my own distinctive style, personality and methods.'

He said 'You just came up with your professional name that is going to help you achieve that goal. Your last name is Atlas for 'the world' - Joey Atlas - Joey who helps the world.'

He knew that word of mouth is a big part of anything that becomes wildly popular and famous - and a good, easy to remember, say and spell name is a key element in fostering word of mouth business growth and development.

Ever since that day, I've been using Joey Atlas as my professional and pen name - and the strategy has worked extremely well.

So, I 'm sure you are wondering, 'What is his real name?' - what you really mean is, 'What is his birth name?' (They are both real names - one is my birth name and one is my professional/pen name.)

My full birth name is Joseph Gennusa - that is whats printed on my birth certificate.

For some this may be easy to pronounce or remember - but for MANY, and I mean MANY, this last name is hard to pronounce, spell and remember. Not good for people who want to tell their friends, family and associates how they've been helped by me and my fitness products and services.

So there you have it. Now, even though I'm putting this into the public arena - you can bet, in a year or two, when I'm on the world stage (In a much bigger way than I am now.) - someone is going to try to make a big deal out of this and 'cause me harm'.

No sweat - I'll just tell the world to go the Official Joey Atlas Blog and read about my announcement on this very day.

Its Done...

Before I tell you what's done I want to let you know this weeks issue of 'Secrets of a Trainer' will be sent out tomorrow and Step 7 of 'The Before And After Project' will be sent out on Friday.

A BIG notice to all men (and women who want their men to have better legs) who have been waiting for the 'Athletic Legs For Men' DVDs - They Are Done! and the website is live. It has not been publicly announced because I want to give all of my current subscribers and clients a chance to get to the website without crashing the hosting servers.

Please note these DVDs are almost the same at the Leg, Butt, Hip And Thigh Makeover DVDs - But the Progression Plans are different as they have been modified to be more conducive to the fitness goals of men.

Military Personnel Fitness Update...

I needed to get this out to all of my Army/Navy/Airforce/Marine clients around the world.

*First, 'thank you' for the service you provide.*

Second, I've been getting a regular and steady number of orders from more and more of you. Because of this, I was struck with an idea. The idea is that there is a possibility of an unfilled need regarding fitness training programs for military personnel.

Of course, this may not be for all personnel at all locations (or maybe it is). But, logic would tell me that there are staions/bases that do not have traditional exercise/fitness equipment (due to space/logistics) and therefore would stand to benefit by making my programs available to all personnnel - being that my programs do not require any equipmment for about 98% of the workouts.

Depending on your feedback - I may research the process for becoming a govt. supplier to fill this potential need.

Any and all feedback is welcome - I look forward to hearing from you.

'Secrets of a Trainer'

- My Public Confession...

Over the course of eight weeks in the summer 1991, I completely took apart a human body. From skin to organs and limb by limb, like a surgeon, I carefully cut my way through all layers of the body. At first I really didn't want to do it, but I had no choice. And once I got into, I actually started looking forward to doing more and more.

A lot of people already know I did this. As a matter of fact, there were six other people involved in this undertaking. We made a pact and we all stuck to it, until the job was done and we could cleanly dispose of the body.

At the end of eight weeks we all congratulated each other and waited to see who was gong to be in trouble and who would be able to walk away without a problem.

I was one who walked away without a problem. I got an A.

You see, this was an eight week Med. School level gross anatomy course and if we wanted to graduate, with an Exercise Physiology degree, we each (in groups of 7) had to disect a cadaver and learn every function of the human body while we were at it.

(A special 'thank you' to the gentleman who donated his body to science which gave me the opportunity to learn more about the human body than I could ever imagine.)

So, what does this mean to you?

At the beginning of the eight weeks, on Day # 1 - we were all 'introduced' to our cadavers - 150 college seniors preparing to enter a medical lab with stainless steel tables with covers - under which, the bodies were stored in large plastic bags.

Some people were getting quesy in the hallway, a handful got lightheaded as we entered the lab, a few fainted as we all opened the stainless steel covers and a couple of students burst into tears, running for the doors as we were instructed to remove the plastic bags which enclosed the cadavers.

Most of these people recovered just fine, and everyone was able to regain their composure and finish out the eight weeks. Not every body passed - the grades ranged from A's to F's with most falling in the middle somewhere.

Nowe, here's the point - on the surface it appeared we were all starting in the same position and at the same level - but by emotional and physiologic reactions alone, it was clear that we had students at many different 'levels'.

Some completely frightened and unsure, and some absolutely at ease and quite confident where they would stand at the end of the eight weeks.

But in the end none of this really mattered - because everybody moved forward in some way. Even the people who failed the class moved foreward. They learned about gross anatomy and more importantly they learned about themselves and became a stronger wiser person because of the whole experience.

And how does this relate to fitness? There are many people reading this e-newlsetter (close to 50,000) and I can assure you, the fitnes levels range from minimal to phenominal. But here is the common thread - it doesn't matter where you 'starting point' is - you can always learn more & develop more wisdom to move foreward in your endeavors.

Its not always easy & you may feel that all your failed attempts are a message for you to quit. But if you can look at a failed attempt and take form it, a lesson to help you be better prepared for your 'next try' - then you have not failed, you have not given up.

For those who are very fit - success can still be found. Maybe you devote too much time to 'working out' and it interferes with your family or professional life and relationships - and your success can be in a better 'fitness solution'.

Maybe your current program is causing you more aches and pains than it is doing you good - and you wish you could find an alternative way to stay fit and healthy.

All these answers exist - it is up to you to seek them out with your best judgement.

The Before And After Project - Step 7

First things first - Comments and a few questions answered...
1) OK - 'The Fitness Messiah' will not be used - enough said
... maybe 'The Fitness Mentor' (The Wizard of Fitness is still in the lead).

2) With every passing month, the addition of several hundred new clients (DVD purchasers) and several thousand new subscribers to 'Secrets of a Trainer' is bringing in a staggering amount of email - please understand I do read all of them, but it would be humanly impossible to answer all of them - so do not take it personally if you do not get a direct response from me. I am brainstorming a few ways to give you the opportunity to take advantage of Q & A type program with me - so stay tuned for that.

3) Here is a question that came in yesterday which I though would be wise to answer via this issue of the newsletter (I think this person is a new subscriber...):
'Hi Joey, what exactly do you sell? I need help with my fitness. Can you help me?'

- Now, some people quickly skim websites and do not pick up the important points during the first read. No problem - thats exactly why I put my email address and phone number on all web pages. So I can answer your questions...

Here is the answer: Currently, I sell several DVD fitness training programs for both men and women. The programs follow the model of gradual progression and are being successfully used by fitness beginners as well as seasoned fitness enthuiasts. I can help you with your fitness... IF you are TRULY ready to achieve fitness success.

This is a perfect segway into 'Step 7' of the Before and After Project'...

Above I mention 'TRULY ready...'

A good handful of you have made incredible progress since this started (as has been indicated by your emails) and I am very excited about reading your success stories and seeing your before and after photos.

For those of you who have been struggling with your fitness commitment - I will share with you the common thread shared by those who are 'doing well'.

Those who are making great progress are learning about the psychological aspect of the fitness commitment. These people are 'getting it'. They are understanding that being fit is more a function of how you think as opposed to what you do and what you eat. In other words...

Without the right mindset - you stand a sure chance of experiencing fitness failure (remember failure is only temporary - unless you allow it to be permanent, its simply a decision you make, followed by specific, planned actions [temporary failure]).

And in every failure - you have to draw from it, a lesson learned that provides you with more wisdom about YOURSELF.

Backing up to the phrase 'truly ready' - what I mean here is 'Do you have the true desire to improve your life and your well-being [physical, mental, spiritual].] And are you ready to go through the thought processes necessary for continuous behavior conducive to bringing you closer and closer to 'your ideal level of fitness'.

This is the 'quick fix' or the 'magic fitness pill' that most people pray for - its in your mind - waiting for you to tap into it. Its more powerul than anything on the shelves at GNC or any product in a farfetched infomercial or magazine ad.

If your desire is deep and strong to 'be the best you can be' - gathering the rest of the ingredients becomes very easy and natural. Yes - it may require some perisistence but we all have unlimited amounts of that too.

So I end Step 7 with this:

Participants who are 'getting it' - keep it going and look areas where you can improve - for example - last weekend we finally cleaned out our pantry. Took out all foods that did not fit into our family health goals. Things with MSG - food colorings & things we could not pronounce, etc - went into the garbage.

We now stock up with more and more natural, organic & whole grain type foods.
(A note - removing alot of these 'foreign substances from your diet allows your body to be leaner, more toned and more ENERGETIC - try it and see for yourself).

For those of you who have 'fallen off' - take some time to think about what you want to acheive in terms of your health and fitness AND more importantly... WHY?

Write this stuff down - write ALL of the reasons why you want to look good, feel good and get great health profile results every time to receive a full physical. Write them all down - even if you think it may sound selfish - its OK to be 'selfish' with your well-being because its only your responsibilty and nobody elses.

Now get your journal and pen and start writing your future.

Before I get into this: First, if you do not wish to recieve your 'Secrets of a Trainer' any longer - you can unsubscribe at the bottom of this email.

But be warned if you unsubscribe - you won't be able to say 'Hey, I knew that guy when he used to send me his email fitness newsletter.' - when I become a worldwide fitness guru/celebrity (its already happening) - bigger than Jake, Tony Little, Gilad, Denise Austin, etc. - this is not a hokey pokey dream - this is a well tought out plan and true desire of mine...

The only way this will occur is by me helping millions of people discover the true path to 'ultimate fitness' success.

Don't let the subject line fool you. When most people talk of 'ultimate fitness' - they are referring to the superficial/cosmetic/physical element of fitness, paying no heed to the 'mental/metaphysical' aspect of true fitness.

As most of you know, the Joey Atlas fitness philososphy is built on the foundation of the unseen elements of fitness - what goes on in the mind to bring about undeniable and permanent results.

As I continue to write the rest of 'The Blow-Torch Diet' book - alot of these little known concepts and ideas I speak about in these emails, are getting 'fleshed out' - so those of you who 'get it' - the intangible side of health and fitness success - will really love what will be in 'The Book' when it is released.

But for now - we have some issues to address regarding recent emails from 'Before and After Project' participants (those of you who are working toward making health & fitness progress, worthy of getting yourself a feature spot in 'The Book' and possibly getting on the cover)

Many emails from you are talking about amazing changes (mental and physical) taking place - to those of you who fall into this category - just keep it up and keep it going - you are doing perfectly.

For those of you who have 'fallen of the band wagon' or have given up for one reason or another - I say this. Stop and think, reflect. What were the events & thoughts that followed that 'made you want to give up'? ( I know several of you had health issues etc. - come up, that needed to be addressed, no problem there...)

What did you 'say to yourself' that made it so easy to not want to continue?

Some people emailed me about - 'life situations adding too much stress' or parties and vacations 'setting me up for failure' - or - 'I have no willpower' - etc, etc.

And what happens is this - exercise stops and poor nutrition habits increase. And you move away from health and fitness success - not toward it.

And guess what - YOUR LIFE GETS WORSE !

You must pre-rehearse your thoughts and actions during times 'when life gets tough' - I can speak of this because I've been, there several times (I will make these experiences public in 'The Blow-Torch Diet' book'. - You must know that throwing in the towel on your own health and well-being will only make any situation you are going through much worse. (of course there are a few exceptions).

If you let yourself go - and lost control of your thoughts and the power that comes from that - why not get started right now - reclaim your mind and the thoughts you produce - and get back on your program.

If you were doing well before you got sidetracked, even if it was just for a few days or weeks - build on that and keep it going this time.

Don't get discouraged easily and don't expect unrealistic results in 1 or 2 days - this is a lifestyle not a fad.

The Before And After Project - Step 6

Ok - so here is Step 6...

As I sat down to type this 6 emails came into my inbox - 3 of then were New Order Notices for DVD sales, 1 of them was from a business contact and 2 of them were spam/hoax diet/fitness product marketing emails.

Now, I get alot of these and I ignore them. But I realized that these things keep going to millions of people because many people place false hope on the fact that some magic pill does or will exist which will hold the key to their dream body.

Messages like these are around us all the time in every form of media, trying to capture your mind, increase your emotional pain and then sell you magic in a bottle or something closely related. This method is used so much because it works. I guess you can say '(false) hope springs eternal profits' for these types of companies.

Here is the problem it creates for people who are unsuccessful in their fitness quest. It is human nature to look for 'the next best thing'. As if there is a program that could be better or easier than one that is currently being followed. It is one reason why many people are yo-yo dieters - "This new one might be better - so I'm going to try that one."

The point I'm trying to make here is you must take your focus off all the distractions 'on the outside' and focus on 'your plan', which comes from inside you.

What distracts you? What dislodges your internal focus and crushes your willpower (by the way - we all have willpower in UNLIMITED amounts - the question is do you know how to tap into your unlimited supply of willpower?)

Within your reach is everything you need to know in order to 'get where you want to be' - Take a look at your self from the outside - act as your own trainer and start guiding your self toward your goals (of course I'm here to help...) - Most people generally know the things they 'need to do' - most just don't do those things - or they don't do them long enough to SEE the benefits.

Don't allow yourself to be distracted - teach yourself about the vulnerability of your 'hope' and pre-plan your reaction to the chaos that goes on in the world around you.

Don't be an object that is acted on - be a force that exhibits a necessary amount of control in your environment (this is little known 'law of the universe' - and it is a method by which many BIG people in this world have risen to tremendous success).

OK - time to get back to work (writing The Blow-Torch Diet book)...

Six weeks to go before all 'before and after' photos and stories must be in, in order to be considered for a feature spot in the book.
